The meeting was very brief. They didn't have much business and they got it done efficiently.
First up to speak during citizen participation segment was Larry Brown. He talked about how much better this school year has started off. Things sound good!! There are some problems that are popping up but they are working to solve them. I don't know all the teachers and staff here but my impression is that they deserve a lot of credit for all the work and sacrifice they have put in to make this school district better. Thank You!!
Next up was John Rhines. He brought up several important items and one of them was the bill that State Senator Ken Horn has proposed, Senate Bill 356. It has passed the Michigan Senate and now goes to the State House. This bill would allow Bridgeport, Saginaw and the Frankenmuth school districts to collect the non-homestead taxes on territory that was inherited after the Buena Vista district was dissolved by the state. So Bridgeport got the students and a building, but they didn't get the tax dollars to go along with that. MLive posted a article on Monday that talks about it -- http://www.mlive.com/news/saginaw/index.ssf/2015/09/ken_horn_sponsored_legislation.html#incart_river
